» THE NEBULAE.
the nebulae.

An emission nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), the Gaia Nebula is a volatile collection of dust and gases -- and it’s the new home of planet Earth. Outside of the comfort and familiarity of the solar system, the warm embrace of the atmosphere -- the Earth’s shell for so many billions of years -- Earth is in danger. Protected only by the Stasis Orb and the planet’s own gravity, Earth floats aimlessly, neither orbiting or falling into the abyss of space. The nebula both nourishes and barrages the planet; unfathomably massive cloud of gas and dust envelope Earth and protect it from intruders, while the same forces inundate the planet. Clouds of passing debris fall over Earth’s remaining cities like a fog of despair, but when they pass, the technicolor landscape of the nebula paints the sky, and humanity remembers why they moved their home so far away from its place of creation.

Other nebulae are connected to Earth via the same interdimensional gaps in space used to move the planet from its solar system. People visiting or living in external nebulae reside in large, comfortably outfitted spaceships, which are operated depending on their country. Inter-nebular travel requires a visa, as the ships are owned and operated by nations, not individuals. It is simply like crossing into another country. However, it is important to note that citizen ship on Earth in a particular nation does not grant citizenship on that nation's external ship!

A neighboring planetary nebula, Brokeback Nebula is a research colony turned gay resort. The source of many an in-joke on Earth, Brokeback is actually a fairly spectacular place to hold a vacation. Space ships on Brokeback are operated by the United States, Cuba, Spain, Sweden, Ghana, and Morocco.

On the outskirts of the Cloud is the Sauron Nebula, home of LARPers, several art colonies, and a giant space carnival. ...
